Boston Fire Department Strengthens Fire Behavior Training with New Flashover Simulator ST-PRO
Boston, MA – The Boston Fire Department has expanded its firefighter training resources with the completion of a new Flashover Simulator ST-PRO from Symtech Fire, creating new opportunities for personnel to study fire behavior and critical fireground conditions.
The system includes a 20’ observation area and temperature monitoring system, allowing instructors to demonstrate critical fire behavior phenomena such as thermal layering, rollover, and flashover development in a controlled setting.

For a department that responds to thousands of emergencies each year, understanding how fire conditions evolve is essential. The new simulator will support training focused on reading smoke, recognizing changing fire dynamics, and improving decision-making on the fireground.
Beyond the delivery of the Flashover Simulator ST-PRO, the project included comprehensive training provided in partnership with On-Scene Training Associates. The program equipped Boston Fire Department personnel with the knowledge and instructional foundation needed to maximize the simulator’s capabilities while reinforcing key fire behavior concepts and training best practices. As part of Symtech Fire’s commitment to supporting long-term firefighter development, departments also have access to instructor development and educational programs designed to help agencies build effective, sustainable fire behavior training initiatives.
At Symtech Fire we’re proud to support the Boston Fire Department with a training resource that helps build knowledge and operational awareness. The project reflects Boston Fire’s continued commitment to investing in training opportunities that prepare firefighters for the challenges of today’s fire service.
